If the graphics are looking very poor:
-
You should use at least 32768 colors. This is recommended!
-
Start WinBrick2000, press F9 and ">>" until you are asked if you want to
change the resolution. Click "Yes, always". Now it should look better!
If the game runs jerky or even crashes, you may try the following:
-
The game should be at a framecount of 50fps (optimum). You can proove this
by pressing F11 when the game is running. You should see then the frame
count in the upper left corner. If the number is far below 40, you can
do the following:
-
If you are using true color, you should switch back to 32768/65536 (16bit)
colors.
-
Reduce the window size to the minimum
-
Try to install DirectX to get the latest and (hopefully fastest) display
drivers.
-
Your sound card has problems with DirectSound:
-
Reduce the number of simultaniously used sound channels (F10 / S-Fx, Joystick
/ "No of sound channels")
-
Try to use the Windows Sound System (F10 / S-Fx, Joystick / "DirectSound"
deactivate)
-
Deactivate the sound (F10 / S-Fx, Joystick / "Mute" aktivieren)
-
If only the point above solved the problem, you should contact us. Please
note first the name & brand of your sound board, the used driver version,
the used DirectX version and the version of Windows!
-
If you have still problems, even if you are using the smallest possible
window size, the correct color depth and no sound: Do you have a system
below Pentium 166MHz and / or less than 32MB RAM?
If you cannot use the second mouse:
-
Do you have WindowsNT or Windows2000?
-
There is no second mouse support for this systems!.
-
Do you use USB, COM3, COM4, PS/2 or a BusMouse for your second mouse?
-
The second mouse does only work with COM1 & COM2!
-
Try to start Windows without the connected second mouse. Before starting
the game plug the mouse into COM1 or COM2.
If you have problems with the network game:
-
You cannot see the started game server?
-
Are you using the same DirectX version on all systems (at least DirectX5a)?
-
Are you using the same protocol on all computers?
-
Do you have started one computer as the server and all others as client?
-
Are you using the same version of WinBrick2000 and the same language on
all machines (check "Show all" and wait about 5 seconds to see all (even
non useable) games in the network).
-
Try to use all protocols. IPX/SPX is the ideal protocol in a local network,
because there is no internet traffic.
-
Try to increase the search server time. This can be done as follows:
Edit the file "Brick2k.ini" and add the following lines:
[Ctrl]
NetTimeOut=15000
-
A jerkey network game?
-
All players can only play so fast as the slowest machine is. Try to reduce
the window size on all machines to the minimum before starting the game!
-
If you are playing with TCP/IP in a local network, you should use the IPX/SPX
protocol, or make sure, that you have not installed a "Dial up-adapter"
or an "AOL-adapter". If so: change the protocol or remove them from your
network configuration!
More informations are in the help file and the readme file from your
installation.
